Baton twirling teams compete

    Members of two elite baton-twirling teams from Aroostook County recently competed in the United States Twirling Association Competition held at Belfast High School.

    Representing the Crown of Maine Twirlers of Caribou and the North Star Twirlers of Limestone, who recently took part in U.S. Twirling Association (USTA) competition held in Belfast are, from left; Caribou twirler Kaysie Pelletier with Mackenzie Beaulieu, Emily St. Pierre and Danielle Pelkey, all of Limestone.

   Members representing Crown of Maine Twirlers of Caribou and Limestone’s North Star Twirlers brought back several awards. Competing against over 75 competitors, Mackenzie Beaulieu from the Limestone team placed first in the rhythm event, first in the basic strut and second place in the solo event.
    Also winning from the Limestone group was Danielle Pelkey, who placed second in the basic strut and third in the rhythm event while Emily St. Pierre placed second in the basic strut, third in the rhythm and fourth in the solo event.
    Coming away with wins for the Caribou Crown of Maine Twirlers was Kaysie Pelletier who took first place in the basic strut, first in the military strut, second in the solo and second in the 2-baton event.
    The next competition is scheduled for this Saturday, March 29, at 12:30 p.m. at the Limestone Community School. The public is encouraged to attend this event and support both the North Star Twirlers and the Crown of Maine Twirlers. For more information about this event contact Karen at 325-4863.
