Wade news
Residents of Wade held their Annual Meeting on Tuesday, March 18, with a good representation of voters present. Included in the meeting, all budget articles were passed, and George Howe was nominated and elected to a two-year term as first selectman, and Nelson Ketch was nominated and re-elected to a three-year term as third selectman.
Howe was voted in to finish the term of First Selectman Andy White, who thanks all those he worked with over the past six years as a Wade selectman.

Events/reminders
The “Keenagers” Senior Citizens’ group will be starting up, with their first meeting held at the Civic Center on Thursday, April 10, at 11 a.m. These potluck luncheons are held the second Thursday of each month throughout the summer at the Washburn Civic Center.
On Fridays, the Trailrunners Snowmobile clubhouse kitchen will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a light lunch including burgers and hotdogs and Stew Night features a variety of great homemade soups and stews served starting at 4 p.m. On Saturdays, the kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. serving breakfast and lunch. On Sundays, the clubhouse will be serving breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
TOPS will be meeting each Monday at the Washburn Trailrunners clubhouse, starting with weigh-in at 4:15 p.m. and the meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. For further information, contact Birdena Cochran at 455-8353.

Historical Society news
The Salmon Brook Historical Society will be holding their quarterly meeting on Thursday, March 27, at the Washburn Civic Center at 6 p.m. There will be a potluck supper followed by a short business meeting. Please bring a main dish or dessert and a place setting.
There will be a special program provided by Natalia Bragg of Knot to Bragg Farm. She’ll be speaking on a wide array of medicinal value and uses of native trees. All are welcome to attend. Special tea
The Salmon Brook Historical Society held a tea recently at the Presque Isle Nursing Home to honor Leo and Lila Flewelling. The couple were presented with a plaque thanking them for their dedication, service to the museum and barn, along with their hard work over the years. The couple are both charter members of the Salmon Brook Historical Society and were instrumental in the efforts to purchase the building and raise funds to build the agricultural barn. The plaque will be hung in the museum’s dining room for many to see as they tour the buildings and grounds.
Those attending included: Leo and Lila Flewelling, Sally Derrenbacher, Jack and Dorothy Phelan, Charles and Crystal Cunningham, Ruth Flewelling, Tim and Carolyn O’Donnell.
Free food for seniors
Jeffrey Giggie of Jeffrey’s Garden has announced that his farm produce business is now eligible to participate in the Maine Senior Farm Share Program. This is a program open to a limit of 25 senior citizens age 60 as well as those 55 years of age if disabled or Native American, and each will be allowed $50 in produce from the farm.
The produce will include a wide array of vegetables and some ‘pick your own’ spots which will be at a reduced rate, and special orders will be put up upon request.

Rotary ‘wheels’
The annual Rotary Supper/Auction will be held on Saturday, April 12, at the high school gymnasium with supper being served at 5 p.m. and the auction to follow. The supper menu will be a choice of roast beef or stuffed chicken breast with carrots, peas, baked potatoes, rolls, desserts and coffee, tea, sodas and water.
The auction will follow with crowd favorite auctioneer Tom Drew providing his services and special brand of entertainment for the benefit supper. The cost for the evening events is $10 for adults and $6 for ages 12 and under, and tickets will be available from any Rotarian or at the door, with all proceeds going towards Washburn Rotary projects. Donations are needed and currently being accepted and may be made to any Rotarian. Co-chairs for this year’s event are Rotarians Barbara Turner and Larry Harrison. In other Rotary news, it is really supposed to be spring, because the March page of the Rotary’s calendar features the Washburn ATV Club! There are scenes of trails, pulls and a wide array of ATVs on parade during the August Festival. You can pick up your copy at the bank or White’s Exxon or by phoning 455-8034.
Project Graduation
As part of the Class of 2008 fund-raising events, there will be a team of workers who will shovel roofs, walkways, driveways, do some yard work and haul in wood. All their labor will be done for donations to the Project Graduation fund. For further information, or to reserve your job time, contact Billie Roy at 455-8369.
The Class of 2008 is having an ongoing bottle drive and asks that anyone wishing to donate to this Project Graduation fund-raising event drop off their bottles at Johnny’s Redemption on Main Street in Washburn or at the Presque Isle Redemption Center on Parson’s Street. Also any senior class member will pick them up at your residence. Arrangements can be made for any Project Grad 2008 events by phoning Tracy Reed at the high school at 455-4501.
Junior Exhibition – 2008
Washburn District High School juniors will hold their Junior Exhibition on Friday, April 4, at 7 p.m. at the high school. Tickets for the event will be $3 at the door. There will be trophies for the top three winners and medallions for all participants.
Seven students will be taking part in the competition and include: Cody Hafford, Alex McIntosh, Nick McIntosh, Rachel Palmer, Chelsea Sadler, Jeremiah Sjoberg and Julie Stevenson. David Roy will be providing the entertainment during intermission, Charly Chandler and Shane Stevens will be the hosts for the evening, Mrs. Londa Brown is the director and Tracy Reed is the Junior Class advisor.
Rec Center schedule
On Wednesday, March 26, there will be cross Country skiing held from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m.
On Thursday, March 27, there will be indoor soccer at the elementary school with grades 3-4 playing from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and grades 7-8 playing from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, March 28, there will be a movie at the Rec Center for grades K-4 from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m.
On Monday, March 31, there will be cross country skiing from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. There will also be men’s basketball from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Rec Center senior citizens
Twenty-one senior ladies attended a special meeting at the Rec Center this month. The guest speaker was Charlotte Wilson of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
The women split up into teams to cook a black bean lasagna which was delicious. Dessert was an elegant-looking container full of goodies including strawberries, muffins, pudding and whipped cream, among other items. The women also received a plastic bag sample of Amish Friendship Bread Starter, as well as lots of informational packets. They also enjoyed visiting and Audrey Pavlick won the door prize which was a spider plant in a little ceramic work boot.
