Paddlers preparing for 2008 canoe/kayak season

The Maine Association of Canoes/Kayak Racing Organization (MaCKRO) is beginning to prepare for its 2008 Downriver Point Series Championship.
A paddler must be a member of MaCKRO to qualify for accumulation of points or a point-series award. Individual paddlers must score points in a minimum of four races in rec or racing classes. They may earn points from an individual effort or a team effort. Members may accumulate points and qualify for an award in more than one class. The best five finishes for each paddler/team will determine the total series score. In an event of a tie, the result of the final series race will determine the winner.
Points will be awarded to paddlers based on the official results provided by each race director, and the decision will be final. Points will be awarded in the top three finishes of each class, with a maximum of six points for first; four points for second and two points for third. In classes with less than three entries, the breakdown will be four points for first and two points for second with two entries and two points for first with one entry.
The new highlight of the Downriver Point Series will be the Series Awards presentation at the Meduxnekeag River Race in Houlton on Saturday, May 3.
The Point Series classes are: Junior (canoe rec and canoe racing); Male (canoe rec, canoe racing and kayak); Female (canoe rec, canoe racing and kayak) and Century (canoe rec).
