Shaw, Arnold E., 85, Portage Lake; in Portage Lake, April 16, 2008. Interment will be in Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Stimpson-Ouellette Funeral Home, Ashland.

 

ImagePORTAGE LAKE – Arnold E. Shaw, 85, died unexpectedly Apr. 16, 2008, at his residence. He was born at Portage Lake, Aug. 27, 1922 the son of George T. and Mildred (Duffy) Shaw. Arnold was a US Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Windsor in the Pacific.  During the war, he lost his dear brother John Edward Shaw who was also on a naval ship in the European front near Italy.  He was employed in many professions during his lifetime, including that of a barber, a heavy equipment operator, a constable for the town of Portage Lake, a forest ranger and a registered Maine Guide. His last 15 years of work were as a security guard for Georgia Pacific Company at their Pinkham Lumber Mill. He was a member of the Masonic Pioneer Lodge AF & AM of Ashland, serving as Lodge Master in 1972, a member of the York Rites, a member of Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor, and the VFW LeBlanc-Junkins Post 9699 of Ashland.      A kind and gentle man who raised his children with love and respect, he now re-joins the love of his life, Lee.
     Arnold is survived by his children: daughter Myra Shaw Robinson and her husband Donn of South Carolina; son, Bruce Shaw and his wife Regina of Texas; daughter, Debbra Shaw Martin and her husband Gedeon of Mapleton; son John Shaw and his wife Jane of Portland; his very dearest sister, Vivian Shaw Morris of Ashland; brother-in-law, and best man, Camille Cyr of Eagle Lake; brother and sister-in-law, Conrad and Eva Cyr of Vermont; sister-in-law, Annette Pinkham of Arizona; and nine dear grandchildren, Faye Martin, Aaron Shaw, Ryan Shaw, Amy Shaw, McKenzie Shaw, Phoebe Shaw, Kimberly Robinson Martin, Bart Robinson and Danny Robinson. He was predeceased by his dear wife of 57 years, Leonette (Cyr) Shaw; his parents, George Thomas Shaw and Mildred (Duffy) Shaw Pinette, his step-father, Amos Pinette, and brothers, John Edward Shaw, George "Dordy" Shaw and Fredrick Bruce Shaw.
    A Masonic memorial service was held at the Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland at 7 PM on Monday, April 21 by the members of Masonic Pioneer Lodge #72 AF & AM of Ashland.
