On April 12, Pearl Main was guest of honor at a surprise party to celebrate her 80th birthday. The party was held at the United Baptist church and organized by her children, Spencer Main and wife, Lois, from Hermon, Lisa Main, from Brewer and Jamie Main of Crystal. Also attending was grandson, Eric Main, accompanied by a friend from Hermon, and family friend, Robin Long, from Brewer, Mrs. Cindy (Fogg) Gardner and children, Amanda, Ashley and Robert, from Rockland, plus many friends and other relatives in the area. Pearl received many cards and gifts and was also presented with a lovely birthday cake which was served by the three Gardner children, along with all the other goodies brought to the party. Pearl was completely overwhelmed and surprised when she was escorted into the church by her family to find it was a party for her as she had expected to be taken out for dinner that day. We all wish her many more happy birthdays.
Clayton and Charlene Webb have been in Presque Isle recently where Clayton underwent a physical exam and was pronounced well and healthy. They didn’t have time to do any visiting in the area but will do so next time they are up north.
I had a nice phone call from son, Tom, the other day and he is now back to work and doing very well since his surgery. There is no snow in the Bangor area and it's hard for him to believe we have so much up here. His lawn is turning green and is all cleaned up for the summer.
Roger Webb was in Bangor recently to visit with his brother and wife, "Juny" and Margaret, and also do a bit of carpentry work for "Juny". He also says the ground is very bare down south of us.
I have been raking what sections of my lawn are bare to get all the gravel, left behind when the snow melted, into large piles to be carted away eventually. It’s so great to have all this nice warm weather again and being able get out to enjoy it while it lasts.
My yard, at times, is covered by many blackbirds busily eating what they can and even get into the birdfeeders on occasion. I also have many juncos now to go along with the chickadees and woodpeckers. And the yellow cat that lived in my barn all winter has now been taken home by his owner, who now lives in Hampden and couldn't find the cat in the fall when they left. She was some glad that the cat was all right and fat and healthy. I will miss feeding her, though. She was very friendly but wouldn’t try to come into the house.
The other morning, early, lots of deer were roaming the area. One neighbor spotted three about 6 a.m. and one morning I had six of them in the feeding area. I think it is a lot easier for them now to get around and the ones I saw looked quite healthy. I still put out goodies for them but they usually don't arrive until about 6:30 p.m., just when the news comes on, so I don't always see come to the feeding area but it is always gone by 7:30 p.m.
