United Methodist Women
The April meeting of the United Methodist Women was held on April 14 in the church vestry. A 12 p.m. luncheon was served by hostesses Joan Walsh and Clara Hussey, assisted by Ruth Sylvester and Elaine Bailey. The Easton UMW were guests. A special food blessing was read. President Janice Footer opened the meeting by welcoming the guests. She then led in the Purpose Pledge and Prayer.
The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted as read. Diane Ketchum, treasurer, reported that $450 was realized from the recent food sale during the Winterfest. Diane also reported that the unit gave $50 toward the Easton UMW Mothers Day Blanket Project.
Several thank-you notes were received. Joan Walsh thanked the UMW for honoring her through the Heifer Project. She was awarded three flocks of chicken. These chickens provide food and income to the poor, struggling families in depressed countries as they can sell the eggs and/or produce more chickens. She also received a Willow Tree Collectable.
It was voted to have the annual Trash and Treasure on June 14.
Wednesday, April 16, the Sub-District of the Northern Maine UMW met at the Presque Isle Methodist Church. Each member brought a gift for the silent auction. Joan and Elaine spent $20 to make up a box for Inter-Faith Food to be divided among local food cupboards.
After the benediction, the meeting was turned over to Program Chairperson Joan Walsh. She conducted a very lively and interesting Bible quiz. Prizes were awarded. Cindy Anderson won the door prize – a potted plant of yellow daisies. It was announced that, from now on the meetings would begin at 12 p.m. with each one bringing a sandwich. Dessert and beverages will be provided.
