Bike rodeo scheduled for Saturday

HOULTON — On Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., the Houlton Police Department and Wal-Mart will be jointly hosting a bike safety clinic featuring safety inspections, tune-ups, and a safety lecture about the rules of the road.  This is followed by a ride on a miniature course set up in a parking lot where young cyclists test their skills and apply the rules that they have learned. The goal of the clinic is to teach children the importance of seeing, being seeing, and remaining in control at all times when riding a bike.
Participants will be escorted through the course by Det. Carolyn Crandall who will point out hazards and safety tips. For children who do not have a bicycle helmet, Det. Crandall will be fitting and issuing them one after the child has participated in the program. The helmets were purchased and donated by the Houlton Rotary Club.
