The East Grand Adventure race was held Saturday, May 17 in the Danforth-Weston area with 18 students representing five high schools in attendance.

Brothers Harvey and Abe Brittain of East Grand finished the 16-mile course first in a time of 2:25:00, followed by Charlie Beller and Joel Crawford of Brewer High School, clocking in at 2:34:30.
The race consisted of a 1.5-mile off-trail hike using map and compass also known as a Bushwhack. Next was seven miles of mountain biking with numerous obstacles to go through or around including mud holes, washed out culverts and steep gravel pit walls. The third leg of the race included seven miles of canoeing on the Baskahegan Stream with the race ending in Bancroft.
New this year was the climbing wall challenge at the East Grand School gym where participants could take minutes off their course time with wall holds achieved.
Along the canoe route, one team encountered a cow moose with a newborn swimming in the stream. Not only did the event promote good physical exercise, it was a fun way to get young people involved with the outdoors while improving on wilderness traveling skills.
East Grand School would like to invite other schools to host these events for their students to promote good physical exercise and outdoor awareness, while learning life-long skills.
The results of the race are as follows: third, Mountain Valley High School, Chris Mejias and Joel Sweetser, 2:48:48; fourth, Lawrence High School, Tyler Heinrich and Beau Willoughby, 2:56:25; fifth, Woodland High School, Mollie White and Taylor Cochran, 3:01:30; sixth, Mountain Valley, Carl Zorhorst and Carmella Glazier, 3:27:04; seventh, East Grand, Cleve Kenyon and Jesse Nicholas, 3:51:01; eighth, East Grand, Aaron Henn and Robert Cousins, 4:01: 08; and ninth, East Grand, Eddie Bobitsky and Dustin Miller, 4:08:53.
