PRESQUE ISLE — As spring cleaning gets under way for households across the city, folks have decisions to make as to how to dispose of those unwanted items that have accumulated in closets, under beds, in basements, attics and garages for months or even years.     The Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce has a way to turn that clutter into cold, hard cash, with the annual city-wide yard sale scheduled for Saturday, June 7, beginning at 8 a.m. Rain date has been set for Saturday, June 14, starting at 8 a.m.
“It’s that time again to join neighbors, friends and local businesses and get ready to sell your ‘stuff.’ It doesn’t get any easier to clean out your garage or cellar and clean out your old inventory,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director of the PIACC.
To take part, participants have to complete a form and pay a $5 registration fee for a residence or $10 for a business.
Registration entitles participants to be included on a map of the city indicating where their sale is being held.
“Your location will be placed on a map distributed to area businesses and Presque Isle City Hall. Proceeds will be used to support the Chamber,” said Fowler.
Though registration is not required to hold a yard sale that day, Fowler said yard sale participants are encouraged to register for the event, since proceeds will be used to support local activities such as the Holiday Light Parade and Crown of Maine Hot Air Balloon Festival.
Registration forms can be picked up at the PIACC office, located on the Houlton Road; at City Hall; local grocery stores; the Aroostook Centre Mall; and local banks.
Forms need to be turned in at the PIACC by May 23 in order to have a sale marked on the map. Maps will be ready for distribution on May 28. For more information, contact the PIACC at 764-6561 or by e-mail at piacc@mfx.net.
