PRESQUE ISLE – With the city’s Sesquicentennial Celebration less than a year away, the Presque Isle Historical Society is asking for a little help bringing the past to the present through donations of old photos and antique clothing. “Preserving the past is the job of the Historical Society. This is even more important right now as we rapidly approach our 150th birthday as a town here in Presque Isle,” said Kimberly Smith, treasurer of the Historical Society and sesquicentennial organizer.
In celebration of such a momentous occasion for the city, said Smith, the Historical Society will be having a DVD produced highlighting the history of Presque Isle and would love to have residents’ old photos to share with others.
“In addition, the Society plans on hosting an Historic Fashion Show Luncheon in 2009. So the next time you are cleaning out your garage or attic and run across old clothing (from WWII era and before), old photos (yes, even if they are of your family), old phonograph records (especially those from pre-1930), don’t throw them away. Think of the Historical Society! Besides, these donations represent a tax deduction for you,” said Smith.
As the city prepares for its annual yard sale, what better opportunity to put that historic item to good use by sharing with the public through a donation to the Historical Society and earn a tax deduction at the same time.
The Presque Isle Historical Society was founded in 1963 to study, promote and preserve the history, culture, heritage and physical artifacts of Presque Isle for future generations.
