Glenn McNelly traveled to Manchester, N H on Friday and met his son, Donald, who is currently working in Houston, Texas. Both then traveled to Northampton, Mass., where they enjoyed the Last Chapel Convocation of Smith College on Saturday and the 130th Commencement of Smith College on Sunday. Kimberly McNelly, daughter of Glenn McNelly of Mattawamkeag Lake and Dawn Granville of Calais, received her BA degree (Cum Laude) on Sunday, with a major in East Asian languages and cultures. Kimberly was honored on Saturday on being installed in the Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. She is employed for the summer at the experimental farm in Monmouth and will be leaving in early August for Japan, where she will be teaching English as a second language.
On Sunday afternoon Glenn and son Donald returned to Manchester, N.H. where Donald flew back to Texas and Glenn drove back to his home in Island Falls.
Out of the hospital
Clayton Webb has recently spent several days in Houlton Regional Hospital where he underwent several tests. He is now at home and feeling well and back to driving again.
Visitors in town
Recent visitors in Island Falls have been “Junie” and Margaret Webb, now living in Bangor. They visited with daughter, Jarice, and other relatives while here.
Around home
I had a nice phone call from Jane Grant the other day. She is a cat lover and recently had to give up feeding a stray cat in the area due to skunks getting into the cat food when it was put out. Hopefully, the skunks will disappear and she will again feed the kitty.
I put out my hummingbird feeder the other day but no hummingbirds seen yet — guess it is too cold.
And now the deer family are in the back yard several times a day and the other day, during a downpour, I looked out and there they were, all lying down apparently unconcerned about the rain beating down on them.
The lawn mower is now ready to use when the grass is a bit higher. Right now, all the dandelions are in full bloom and really look pretty against the green grass. I’ll make short work of them in a week or two.
