Hornet baseball, softball nears prelims at 10-0

    After only two innings of Class D baseball last Friday, Ashland clearly had the victory over Wisdom with all 12 of their game-winning runs already on the scoreboard. The Hornets moved to 10-0 after the 12-2 win.

    Lucas Belanger paced Ashland with a double for two runs and one RBI single. Carl Nemer and Nick Gimbel both singled in the win.
    A trio of homeruns by Whitney Flint, Crystal Cook and Andrea Mayo propelled Ashland softball to their 26-2 defeat of Wisdom to move their record to 10-0 last Friday.
    Flint and Mayo both knocked in three runs each with their homers. Cook also had a single and two RBIs. Mayo hit two singles and five RBIs while Flint also posted one single.
    Senior Flint boosted her pitching record as she struck out 12 and gave up no hits to the Central Aroostook batters to help the Hornets to their 14-0 victory last Thursday.
    Flint also cranked out three singles to push in three runs. Mindy Chasse posted two singles and two RBIs. Rylee Graham hit a single and put in two runs while Taylor Baker had two singles.
    Ashland baseball put nine runs on the scoreboard in the third inning toward their 18-8 win over the Panthers. Jeremy Tarr and L. Belanger led at bat with a double and two singles each. Nemer posted two singles for the Hornets.
    Leading the Panthers was Logan McCarthy with three singles and Will Delong with one single for two runs.
    Hornet baseball and softball began another week of play adding to their perfect records against Southern Aroostook on May 20.
    At the baseball field, Ashland pitcher Tarr outdid the Warrior’s touted Dakota Sleeper on the mound striking out nine while walking two and allowing five hits in the 5-1 victory.
    Tyler Cote swung for three singles, and Gimbel and Jake Paradis both posted a double and a single each.
    Ashland softball continued to show their offensive force with a 16-4 win. Mayo blasted a homer, and Suzie Poulin pelted three singles for the Hornets.
Tiger softball wins two
    Tiger Kelsie York won the pitching contest last Thursday as Fort Fairfield softball picked up their fourth win of the season over Van Buren 11-9. York posted two singles and two RBIs in the game while Courtney Churchill hit a triple and a double for FFHS.   
    Tiger Josh Booth picked up a pitching win as Fort Fairfield defeated Limestone for the second time this season 5-1 last Wednesday. Booth also doubled and singled for two runs. Ryan Noyes hit two singles and a double, and Matt Cresenzo added two singles for FFHS.
    Eagle Ty Tracy hit an RBI double, and Chris Parent a double for Limestone.
    On the softball field, Fort Fairfield fell to Limestone 16-3. Shannon Towle led the Tiger charge with a triple and a single.
    Fort Fairfield softball took the win from Southern Aroostook on May 20, 19-5. Towle led the Tigers with two singles for two runs, and Amber Wilson hit two singles and one RBI.
Beaver softball moving up
    Washburn softball routed Fort Kent last Thursday on their home field, rounding the bases for a 20-8 victory. Kelsee McLaughlin knocked three singles and a double for three runs while Rachel Palmer hit a double and a single for the Beavers. Rebecca Campbell helped the Washburn cause with two singles and an RBI.
    Southern Aroostook’s ball clubs added another win to their season records after defeating Washburn last Friday.
    Beaver baseball fell 13-0 to the Warriors bringing their record to 1-8 while Washburn softball posted a 22-9 loss for a 7-5 record.
    Amanda Libby led Washburn softball with one RBI and two singles. Kristen Goupille also had two singles.
    Last Wednesday’s Class D contest between Washburn and Central Aroostook came down to the bottom of the final inning as Washburn put in two runs to tie the game at 28 each. However, Beaver Rachel Palmer sprinted to home for a stolen base and the game-winning score, 29-28 WDHS.
    Palmer pelted three singles and one double for three runs while teammate McLaughlin hit four singles and four RBIs. Dakota Koch added three singles and four RBIs.
    Panther Robyn Graham swung out a home run to bring three runners across home plate. Ashley Estabrook also popped away a homer and one triple with three RBIs. Latisha Neece singled four times for three runs.
    CAHS seniority kept Washburn short of a home victory last Wednesday as the Panthers, led by Cameron York, nailed the 14-6 Class D victory.
    York hit a double, triple and put in two runs for the Panthers. McLaughlin added two singles for two runs.
    Leading the Beaver fight was Ethan Doody with a home run driving in three runs, and Travis Conley with two doubles and one single for two runs.
    Limestone softball moved to 12-0 after dealing with Washburn on May 20 for a 25-5 victory.
    Melanie Allen captained the Eagles with a homer, a double and a single in the win. Victoria St. Pierre also found the right pitch for a home run for two runs and two singles. Dawn McDonald posted a triple, double, single and two RBIs.
    Koch hit a triple and a single in the Beaver effort at the plate while McLaughlin cranked out a double for three runs.
CAHS downs Hodgdon
    CAHS baseball’s infield and outfield play kept Hodgdon at bay on May 20 for a doubleheader sweep 13-3 in the first game and 13-2 in the second.
    In the opener, pitchers McLaughlin, Logan McCarthy and Mitch Folsom allowed the Hawks only one hit. McLaughlin also doubled for an RBI, and Manny Martinez singled for two runs.
    In the final game, Folsom and Delong both singled for an RBI for the Panthers.
    Panther softball took their first game of the Tuesday doubleheader with a late-game charge round the bases posting eight runs in the eighth inning. CAHS collected the win 23-15.
    Graham smacked three singles to help in four runs, and Sarah Long hit three singles, one double and three RBIs for CAHS.
    In the second game, the Hawks came from behind to make up for the homefield loss 30-27.
    Graham singled four times and had four RBIs while Ashley Estabrook batted two triples and two singles for Central Aroostook.
