Go green at the Houlton Higher Education Center

HOULTON, Maine — Pursuing a degree at the Houlton Higher Education Center is the “green” way to go to college. The Houlton Center is an off-campus center of the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the University College Network, providing access to courses, degrees and support services close to home.

Courses are offered on-site, online and through interactive television (ITV). Students also can attend ITV classes at sites in Island Falls, Danforth, Ft. Fairfield and Caribou. With the price of gas continuing to rise, going to college locally saves energy and money for the commuting students. Not only can money be saved on transportation, but also with your time on the job and with childcare.
Each semester the Houlton Higher Education Center offers local access to courses leading to many degree and certificate programs. Courses in education, health and human services, business, nursing, library science, counseling and the liberal arts are a regular part of the semester’s schedule.
It is not too late to apply for the fall semester; scholarship and financial aid opportunities are available for qualified adult and part-time students. The Osher Scholarship Program is designed for students who have never been to college and would like to try a course. Scholarships from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Northern Maine Community College can also be used for courses at the Houlton Higher Education Center.
In southern Aroostook County, completion of a college degree is close to home in an environment that provides personalized services to support academic success. Registration for the fall semester is ongoing.
