13-16 baseball schedule
(all games placed at the Soucie Sports Complex)
Woodland PTA and Sleepers met up under the lights for a pitcher’s duel to be remembered in the history of the Northern Division of the 13- to 16-year-old baseball league. Woodland starter Royce Landeen went four scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts, and was matched by Sleepers’ pitcher Caleb Chapman who also went four scoreless innings with nine strikeouts.
Woodland’s 13-year-old pitcher Aaron Losieniecki picked up from Landeen striking out six batters over two innings.
Going into the bottom of the final inning neither team had scored. Number-nine hitter from Woodland Losieniecki drew a walk and stole second. Cody Thibodeau also walked, and both runners advanced on a post ball. Chad McCarthy drove in the game-winning run with a single hit. Key defensive plays were made by Dylan Bouchard and Sam Robertson.
Chapman had the sole hit for Sleepers, and McCarthy belted two singles for Woodland.

CRX news
The second week of CRX ended with a bang on July 4. The weather was a bit windy for the lakes but perfect for river-running due to the unusually high waters for this time of year. On Monday, participants learned basic canoeing techniques at Madawaska Lake, and, on Tuesday, paddled from Washburn to Presque Isle on the Aroostook River.
Frank Frost, biologist for the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, joined the group on Wednesday to talk about the principals of Electroshocking and the ecological importance of the habitat in a stream. The students learned about six species of fish, testing the oxygen level checking the phosphorous level and checking the water temperature. The day was capped off with a paddle from Axle Siding to Stockholm on the Madawaska Stream.
On Thursday, a smaller group paddled from Little Madawaska Stream to Dube Pit on the Van Buren Road.
The program was designed to heighten the participants’ awareness of their immediate surroundings. The County has many recreational opportunities to enjoy; families can explore what is close to home.
