To the editor:
This past May I was in Caribou for several weeks volunteering with the American Red Cross because of flooding in North Maine. Being from South Carolina it was a very different experience for me on many levels. But, an enjoyable one. The weather was much more comfortable than the high 90s we were having here at the time. The people I met were wonderful, no matter where I crossed paths with them. This brings me to the true point of my message.
While I was in Caribou I visited the Nylander Museum of Natural History. The day I was there a young lady named Amanda was my host. I want to tell you that she is an excellent representative for your facility. She greeted me with a friendly welcome and a smile. She walked with me when I had questions and made every effort to answer them. When I asked a question she was unable to answer, she politely apologized that she “did not know.” She even pointed to brochures from other places in the area and gave me information about them.
I feel that a good employee (volunteer?) needs to be pointed out and recognized. People often complain about the poor experiences they have, but rarely make sure that deserved praise is received. This is my attempt to make sure that Amanda receives the praise she well deserves.
Thank you Amanda and many others from Caribou for the warm welcome I experienced and the enjoyable time I spent there recently.
