Saturday night was a busy night for the Caribou Police Department, according to Police Chief, Michael Gahagan.
“It was a night when I didn’t have enough officers working,” Gahagan said.
Officers were called to two different scenes at around the same time Saturday night. At approximately 11:05 p.m., a call was made to the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department with the report of shots being fired in the area around the West Gate Trailer Park.
When officers arrived at the scene they found Caribou man, Dale Lint, 37, a convicted felon in possession of a handgun along with a 9 mm casing. Gahagan said that Lint was intoxicated and became angry when the power went out, prompting him to fire the weapon in frustration. On further inspection, Gahagan said they found seven marijuana plants, nine ounces of processed marijuana and several pharmaceutical drugs in Lint’s possession.
Lint was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, cultivation and possession of marijuana, and possession of scheduled drugs. He was arrested and taken to the Aroostook County Jail where bail was set at $3,000 cash.
About 30 minutes after the first call, employees of Tim Horton’s restaurant called the department to report that a customer had lost control in the restaurant. According to Gahagan, employees said that Patrick White, 31, of Perham started acting very rude and vulgar, reportedly throwing food around the shop and trying to start fights with other customers and employees, refusing to leave the business when asked.
White eventually did exit the building before police arrived, but he wasn’t done with the evening yet, getting into a brawl with an individual outside the restaurant. The Caribou Ambulance Service responded to the call and treated White for a cut lip and a tooth that had been knocked out during the struggle. No charges were made against the other individual involved in the exchange of blows.
Gahagan said that no alcohol test was really needed as White was quite obviously intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. White made bail and a court date is expected in the near future.
