The third annual Youth Fishing Derby was held on June 28 for all youth through age 14. Military Street Baptist Church and the local chapter of the International Christian Sportsmen’s Fellowship sponsor the event each year. This year, 64 youth from ages 2 through 14 participated in the two-hour derby. After the fishing, a barbecue was enjoyed and prizes were presented.

Among the prizes again this year were complete fishing kits, rod and reel sets and other fishing gear. Many of the prizes this year were supplied by the Christian Sportsmen’s Fellowship and Mac’s Trading Post. Funds to allow stocking of the pond with trout were donated by many local businesses and individuals.

Among the prize winners were: first trout caught by a boy to Logan Beaton and first by a girl was Ricki Wortman. Longest trout caught by a boy was Tyler Bubar at 11 and one-quarter inches and the longest by a girl went to Kalle Williams at 11 inches. First boy to catch the four-fish limit was Ian Goetsch and the first girl to catch her limit was Wortman.
It is hoped that this derby will continue to be an annual event. Thanks to all who supported, worked at and participated in the derby this year to make it another success.
