• Malcolm Oak accepted a position as clerk in the grocery store of Geo. O. Smith.
• Two new houses were being put up near the Lafayette hotel, one by Vetal Michaud and the other by Baptiste Bell.
• The reunion of the Northern Maine Regiment was set for Limestone, to be held at the Cota farm, south of the Catholic Church.
• Frank Cochran had a field of potatoes of the Cobbler variety, which were hard to beat.
• The Caribou baseball team was defeated at Mars Hill by a score of 8 to 2.
75 Years Ago: August 10, 1933
• A large crowd enjoyed the annual military dance of Battery B, 152nd Field Artillery held at the Caribou Armory.
• The potato growers committee decided to increase pickers wages from three and a half cents to five cents per barrel.
• Hon. Louis A. Jack of Lisbon Falls was set to speak at the P. of H. Opera House in Caribou about excise tax bills going before voters in September.
• Fred M. Hawkes was drawn as a traverse juror for the September term of the Superior Court in Caribou.
• Caribou grocers agreed to the common operating hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, in compliance with the National Recovery Act.
• The New Sweden athletic club was preparing to host its annual field day at Thomas Park, including ball games and races.

• Jack Lancaster was elected secretary and treasurer of the North Aroostook Funeral Directors association.
• Sen. Margaret Chase Smith announced in the Republican that she would be in the county for her annual fall speaking tour.
• Mr. Harry R. Summerville, of Allentown, Penn., was going to be arriving in Caribou for a tour, as he was selected as Maine’s “Millionth Visitor.”
• Delwood C. Damboise, of Caribou, received a promotion to Captain while being assigned as dental officer with the 7244th USAF hospital at Dhahran airfield, Saudi Arabia.
• Caribou’s public schools were opening on Sept. 2, with harvest break lasting from Sept. 15 through Oct. 10.
• Fort Fairfield eliminated the Caribou Blue Jays from the Northern Maine Fair Pony League Baseball series by a score of 5-4.
25 Years Ago: August 10, 1983
• Mark Baker, of Caribou, was hired as an EMT for the Caribou Municipal Ambulance Service, being the third and final addition to the staff.
• Stuart Evers, a registered occupational therapist from Caribou, was appointed as head director of the Occupational Therapy Department at Cary Medical Center.
• John Hollowell, of Caribou, received a bachelor’s degree in computer science at the University of Florida.
• Employees of the New England Telephone Company organized a strike and picket line, requesting more job security.
• Sherry Thompson was the overall winner during a Monopoly Tournament held at the Limestone Recreation Department.
• Caribou’s Dr. Mehta, originally of Uttar Pradesh, India, was invited to join the International Platform Association, which recognizes prominent men and women worldwide.
