Several organizations throughout Maine are the recipients of government funding grant given by the Office of National Drug Control Policy Drug-Free Communities Support Program.
In a joint statement by Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe they stated that the government agency gave the State of Maine a grant in the amount of $650,000. This money will be dispersed throughout the state to organizations that focus on keeping their communities drug free.
“Community drug-free programs are important to building safe and healthy communities. We are pleased to see this funding going to Maine,” the senators said.
The local CADET Team/Aroostook Substance Abuse Prevention organization received $100,00 dollars of the grant.
These funds will be used to focus prevention efforts on discouraging underage drinking and prescription durg abuse, accoridng to project officials.
Other Maine organizations receiving grant money include Healthy Androscoggin, Lewiston, Portland CMCA Coalition, Greater Waterville Prevention Coalition, and Katahdin Shared Services, Inc., Millinocket, all receiving $100,000. River Coalition Inc., in Old Town received $50,000.
The Office of National Drug Control Policy is the government’s principal agency to assist community anti-drug coalitions.
