Co-ed softball tourney slated
A double elimination co-ed softball tournament will be held September 5-7 at the Houlton and Hodgdon softball fields. Cost is $140 per team. Deadline for registration is Friday, August 29.

Swim Program open
The Southern Aroostook Swim Program will be held at Jim and Nancy Lilley’s residence on the Smyrna Center Line Road from August 18-21. Non-residents are also welcome.

Hands-on Hunter Safety Course to be held
The Island Falls Fish and Game Club, along with the Free-Wheelers ATV Club are sponsoring a Hands-on Hunters Safety course at the fish and game clubhouse on Mattawamkeag Lake.
The course will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, September 7 and continue over the next three Sundays until September 28. The course is free to participants, with door prizes awarded. The last drawing will be Hal Blood’s DVD on hunting whitetails in Maine.
Instructor for the course is Peter Blood. To register, call 463-3542. The class is limited to 24 students.

Fall basketball league offered
Maine Hoops/MBNation are offering the 13th annual Fall Basketball League for 5-6 grade boys and girls; 7-8 grade boys and girls; 9-10 grade boys; boys varsity and girls varsity A and B level.
Last year, the league consisted of nearly 80 teams from all over Maine and New Hampshire.
The league has four weeks of a regular season, beginning October 11, with playoffs the weekend of November 8. Each team is guaranteed nine games. Teams play two same day games each weekend in the Portland/Saco area.

Smoki-Haulers to host barbecue
The Smoki-Haulers Snowmobile Club is hosting a chicken barbecue from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday at the clubhouse in Oakfield. Cost is $7 or $4 for children 12 and under.
Horse show to be held Sunday
An Open Equitation Trophy Show, sponsored by the Katahdin Trail Riders, will be held Sunday at Fiske Arena in Medway, across from the Medway Irving.
A trophy and rosette will be presented for first place; a rosette for second through six positions and a neck sash for Grand and Reserve Champions in each division. There will be classes for all ages of riders, as well as games.
Coggins and proof of rabies is required.
