ImageImage    Robert “Bob” R. Smilie, 56, of Shapleigh, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.  He was born in Sanford on November 20, 1951, a son of Gerald L. and Carlene F. (Grant) Smilie
    Bob graduated from Sanford High School in 1970.  He then served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.  On June 21, 1976 he married the former Linda Corey in Woodland Center.  Bob worked as an electrician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard retiring in 2007 after 30 years of service.  After retirement he continued working at the ‘JUNKYARD’.  He was also a member of the Maine Obselete  Auto League (MOAL).
    He is predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Carlene Smilie, two sisters, Cindy Smilie and Linda Smilie, one granddaughter, Mackenzie Doody.
    He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda Smilie of Shapleigh, one daughter, Heather Doody and her companion, Mark of Washburn, two sons, Eric Smilie of Kennebunk and Jason Smilie and his wife, Becky of Swanville, one brother, Danny Grant and his wife, Christine of Alfred, one sister, Patricia Watkins and her husband, Scott of Fort Lauderdale, FL, two grandsons, Nicholas Doody of Washburn and Jack Smilie of Swanville as well as several nieces and nephews.
    Friends were invited to gather on Saturday at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, for a Memorial Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service was held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
