    ISLAND FALLS – Everett R. Curry, 78, passed away August 10, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. Everett was born October 1, 1929, in Island Falls, the son of Lewis and Vivian (Porter) Curry.
    Early in his career, Everett worked as many as three jobs at a time. Among those were working on a farm, working in a grocery store, delivering laundry, delivering bread, selling insurance and working in the local starch factory. In 1967 he went into the insurance business full time. He owned and operated Curry Insurance Agency, Main Street, Island Falls, until his retirement in 1991. During his life, Everett was on many boards and committees. He was always a supporter of the community. He was one of the developers who started Vacationland Estates.
     Everett was a member of Island Falls Masonic Lodge No. 206. He was also a longtime member of St. John Valley Seniors, where he was treasurer. He started golfing in the late '50s at Houlton Golf Course. As well as his family, golf was his greatest love. He was one of the first members of VaJoWa Golf Course. He won many club championships in the '60s and '70s. He also won many County Open championships in the senior division. He could often be seen walking around the course with two or three clubs chipping and putting along with hunting for golf balls. One of his fondest memories was his opportunity to play in the PGA Pro-Am with Gay Brewer in Concord, Mass.
    Everett is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna (Stevens) Curry of Island Falls; sons, Randy Curry and wife, Irene, of Dyer Brook and Shawn Curry and his wife, Carmin, of Sherman; daughters, Kristi Brannen and her husband, Kevin, of Smyrna and Vicki Webster and her husband, Charles, of Farmington; grandchildren, Regan Curry and wife, Stacy, Sheena Curry, Korinne Brannen, Karla Brannen, Kendall Brannen, Kalley Curry and Hope Curry; great-grandson, Ryder Curry; brothers, Louis and wife, Josephine, of Houlton and Philip and wife, Polly, of Pine Point; and sisters, Joyce Curry and Dianne Curry of Portland. In addition to his parents, Everett was predeceased by brother, Jim; and sisters, Audrey, Joanne, Shirley and Phyllis.
    Friends called 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, with Island Falls Lodge No. 206 conducting services at 7 p.m. A funeral service was held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment was at Dyer Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare of Maine, care of Healthcare Charities, P.O.
