Jerry York made a terrific birdie on the sudden death 19th hole Sunday to nip Tim Guy and claim the 2008 Men’s Club Championship. Jerry had scored an even par 72 on Saturday, the first day of the tournament, to take a two stroke lead over the field.  But, on Sunday, Tim roared back with a great 18 hole round one under par 71 to catch Jerry.  The two were tied after 36 holes and had to begin a sudden death playoff on hole number one.  Both players had great chances for birdie, but it was Jerry who capitalized to win.
In the Ladies’ Championship, Linda Holmes took a two stroke lead after Saturday’s round and never relinquished the lead, as she continued her fine play on Sunday to be crowned 2008 Ladies’ Club Champion.
Parker Sanderson also played two excellent rounds to win the Junior Club Championship.
Other winners in the two-day event were: “B” Division Ladies, Janice Kelley;  “B” Division Men, Jerry Adams;  “C” Division Ladies, Lori Holmes;  “C” Division Men, Eric Cowperthwaite and  “D” Division Men, Wayne Quint.
In the Men’s Twilight League, the team of Frank McPartland and Marty Gervais finished the regular season ranked number one, while the Daniel Peabody/Gabe Goodwin team finished a close second.  Both teams earned a bye as the 30 team playoffs began this week.
This week is the last week to sign up for the 2008 Babe Caron Member/Guest Tournament, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31. There are less than 10 spots still open, as we will again have only 50 teams. And members, remember, you must have 10 scores at HCGC recorded by Thursday, August 28.
A member/guest prime rib dinner will be held on Saturday, September 13. Joe Bergan and his crew will once again be offering this great meal, so sign up now in the clubhouse or call 532-2662.  You don’t want to miss it.
A special thanks goes out to the grounds crew for their tremendous effort this year in making our golf course as wonderful as it is. This was not the easiest of summers, with the days and days of rain. But, Brent Hammond and his crew of Ray Barton, Angie Brewer, Don Watson and Sean Malloy worked very hard to make sure golfers had a great experience on a manicured course.
