Bekah Pelkey, daughter of Jim and Christy Pelkey, of Limestone, has been invited to participate in the Student Ambassador People to People program, an educational exploration program founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Pelkey will be able to spend 20 days during the summer of 2009, traveling and studying in Eastern Europe with other eligible high school students from the Northern Maine area. During that time she will be earning high school or university credit.
Pelkey and the other students will have the opportunity to tour the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps and visit Krakow and Warsaw, as well as explore the world’s largest medieval castle and the city of St. Petersburg. The students will also be able to visit the site of the 1936 Berlin Olympics and the Berlin Wall.
Pelkey and her fellow travelers have the experience of representing the United States while overseas, experiencing and learning about European cultures and make some new friends.
