Coffin promoted to major

    MARS HILL – Captain Tracy Coffin was promoted to the rank of major in a ceremony at the Henry Cousins American Legion Post 118 in Mars Hill on Sunday, Aug. 24.

    Captain Tracy Coffin was promoted to the rank of Major on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the American Legion in Mars Hill. Her mom, Madeline Coffin, pinned the Gold Oak Leaf Cluster on Tracy’s beret, while Major General Czerw and her dad, John Coffin, pinned her jacket. 

 

Overseeing the promotion was Major General Russell J. Czerw, U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School and Fort Sam Houston and Chief, Army Dental Corps. Major General Czerw presented John Coffin, Tracy’s dad, with a framed letter of appreciation from him for having had the pleasure of working with Tracy, who is currently serving a his interim aide de camp. Czerw then directed that the orders be read, which was done by Coffin’s brother, David Littlefield.
    Major Coffin was pinned with her Gold Oak Leaf Cluster by Major General Czerw and her father, John Coffin. Her mother, Madeline Coffin, pinned her daughter’s beret with her new rank.  
    Tracy Coffin graduated from Central Aroostook High School in 1989 before continuing her education at Norwich University in Vermont, graduating in 1993. Major Coffin started her military career in the Army Medical Department in 1993 as a combat medic where she served as a medic at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Her next assignment was at the Raymond W. Bliss Medical Department Activity, Optometry Clinic NCOIC. She was then selected to go through the Green to Gold Program at Arizona State University where she received her commission as a Medical Service Corp officer in May 1998.  
    She has served in Germany, Macedonia, Kosovo, Maryland, North Carolina and Kuwait. She is currently serving in Texas.
    Her awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (two awards), Iraqi Campaign Medal (with two Service Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, NATO Medal, Parachutist Badge and Recruiter Badge.      
    Major Coffin was also presented a sentiment from the state of Maine by local Representative Jackie Lundeen.      
    Also attending the ceremony were members of Tracy’s family, as well as friends, community members and local military personnel. Tracy comes from a military family: her father, John, and her brother, David, both served in the U.S. Navy, her nephew Matthew served in the U.S. Army, and her brother Chris works at Loring refurbishing military equipment.
