Chadwick’s Florist offers floral design classes
HOULTON — Chadwick’s will be offering a series of floral design classes, once a month, starting in September and continuing through December. The classes will be a mixture of permanent botanical and fresh floral arrangements for the home.
All floral materials needed to complete each design will be provided at each monthly class. Students will need to bring their own tools, a notebook, pen and a camera, if desired. A full list of what is needed will be provided at time of registration.
The sign-up sheet for registration will be available at Chadwick’s Florist, 23 Spring Street in Houlton, from now until Monday, Sept. 8. There are a limited number of spots available to be filled.
The first class will start on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. Class times will run approximately 90 to 120 minutes in duration. There will be a $25 fee charged to take each class.

Unicel collecting new children’s books for Houlton day care
Unicel, the wireless services provider in primarily rural markets across 15 states, wants to send local students back-to-school prepared this year.
Unicel’s 106 retail stores, including Houlton and Presque Isle, will be accepting donated new children’s books now through September 7. During this period, anyone who brings in a book will be eligible for up to $50 off select phone models at Unicel.
All donated books will be given to Susan Sewell’s Day Care in Houlton.
The Houlton Unicel store is located at 300 North Road, Suite 2 while the Presque Isle office is at 765 Main Street.

Insurance group to meet
The Insurance Association of Greater Houlton, affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Women, International, will be holding their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at Governor’s Restaurant in Presque Isle.
Guest speaker that evening will be Angela Berry-Thompkins, executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Aroostook.
Anyone working in an insurance-related field is welcome to come to this meeting to hear about Literacy Volunteers as well as to learn more about the opportunities being a NAIW member has to offer.
