To the editor:
Here are a couple of items that are facing the town that I need to convey to your Oakfield readers:
Tax Bills
Actual release date of your tax bill is unknown at this time. Reason for unknown is that the passage of a School Budget has not happened. Therefore, the Board of Selectmen is asking you to pre-pay your 2008 tax bill. If you are able and willing to pre-pay individually, collectively as a town we avoid having to pay interest costs on a Tax Anticipation Note (TAN), therefore saving the town money.
If people are able to pay 80 to 100 percent of their 2007 tax bill this will keep the town’s cash flow in a positive manner. If we can pull together while the school budget issues work themselves out, it will keep the positive progress that has happened over the past 20-plus months moving forward, otherwise a cloud of “financial paralysis” will result and some of the financial progress will be negated.
I want to thank you for your consideration and should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call or stop by the office.
School Budget
The next School Budget Hearing is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at the school and the Validation Referendum is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Should you have any questions on the school budget please call our representatives Debra Goodall, Paul Suitter or Brad White.
Also, Holly Vining has prepared a document explaining each category of the budget and how it measures against the State Essential Programs and Services (EPS). This is a very detailed and easy to understand document and it will help you make a better informed decision on the school budget. Copies are available at the town office.
Again, should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call or stop by the office. Thank you for your consideration.
Dale Morris,
town manager
