Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets Friday

    Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Chapter 233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Friday, September 5 meeting. Twenty-five ladies were in attendance; 18 were TOPS and seven KOPS.
    Joyce Estey was present to conduct the meeting. Barbara Troy was the official greeter. Loser of the week was Anita Little with runners-up Vicki Little and Brenda Lacostic.
    A discussion of the October 4 rally was held.
    “Happy Birthday” was sung to Barbara Grant, Donna Parent and Sherry Smith. The mystery gift was awarded to Joyce, Barbara Grant won the skinny dish and Anita Nason took home the 50/50.
    Linda Trickey, representative of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension was the principal speaker. Her topic was pressure cookers. She demonstrated by having several covers of cookers with her, one from Presto, one was a Burpee to name a couple. She covered topics such as botulism, freezing, jelly, gauges, pickles and the best way to can and cook with pressure cookers. Linda distributed papers with recipes of Ziploc omelets and other favorites. Samples of tofu and tofu pumpkin pie, made with no eggs and no milk were passed around. The ladies are thought it was delicious.
    Tofu is made from soy beans and can be used in most cooking, is high in protein.
    Linda will make a monthly visit with our TOPS 233. Check the Houlton Pioneer Times for times and dates of her classes, if you care to attend. Linda’s office is in the district courthouse, second floor.
    The next meeting will be September 12 at the same time; meeting at 9 a.m. after the weigh-in at 8-8:45 a.m.
