’Cats impressive vs. Caribou

    Presque Isle’s varsity soccer teams came away with decisive victories in round one of their season series with Caribou.
    The PI boys dominated in a 7-0 win over the Vikes last Tuesday. Six different players scored and the Wildcats held an 18-4 advantage in shots on goal,
    Senior Russ Mortland had two goals, while Warren Zubrick, Wilder York, Josh Allen, Isaac Lajoie and Nate Ackerson notched single tallies for the winners. 

Drew Long, Carter Christiansen and Mortland had assists to back goalie Dillon Kingsbury, who saved all four shots he faced.
    The following evening it was the girls’ turn, and Presque Isle didn’t wait very long to light up the scoreboard. Kayla Richards scored 10 seconds into the game as the Lady Wildcats went on to a 2-0 decision. Katrina Whittier scored a second-half goal for Presque Isle and Kelsey Park nabbed the shutout in goal.
    On Saturday, the two teams made the road trip to Ellsworth, and the boys tied the Eagles,  2-2, while the girls fell by a 3-2 margin.
    Zubrick and Eric Morris scored goals for PI, which surrendered the tying goal with just eight seconds remaining in regulation. The two teams battled through overtime without scoring.
    Kayla Legassie and Brittany Bearden scored goals for PI in the loss. Ashley Cloak scored the game-winner with 3:23 to play in the second overtime for Ellsworth.
    In Class  D action, the Central Aroostook boys picked up impressive wins over Washburn, Easton and Van Buren by a combined score of 16-0.
    Dan Brewer had a hat trick in the 7-0 win over Van Buren Saturday. All seven CA goals came in the second half.
    Garrett Stiles and Brewer had a goal apiece as the Panthers blanked Easton Thursday, 2-0.
    Ashland fell at Easton last Tuesday, 4-3, but bounced back to beat Hodgdon Thursday, 7-0. Kenny Tarr had four goals in the win.    
    In girls’ play, Ashland remained undefeated by topping Hodgdon, 4-0, Thursday. Macie  Pelkey’s two goals helped give the Lady Hornets their fifth win without a loss.
    The Washburn girls edged Fort Fairfield Thursday, 2-1, on Meghan Saucier’s goal four minutes into overtime.
    Easton fell to both Central Aroostook  and Washburn, but Brooke Hammond scored twice in Saturday’s 7-0 win over East Grand.
