Maine Day set at Big E

    WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Avenue of States, showcasing the best of each New England state, is one of the most popular attractions at The Big E in West Springfield, Mass. The Maine Building offers fairgoers a unique opportunity to tour the state’s finest destinations, sample its most delectable foods and shop for Maine-made crafts and native goods.     Maine Day is Saturday, Sept. 27, when the Pine Tree State puts its best foot forward for fairgoers from throughout New England. The state’s special day will include a daylong celebration with musical performances and many activities outside on the front lawn and inside the building, as well. An opening ceremony will take place at 9:45 a.m. followed by the Half Moon Jug Band from 10-10:45 a.m., 12:45-1:30 p.m. and 3-3:45 p.m.; Abbott Hill Ramblers from 11-11:45 a.m. and 2-2:45 p.m.; a Blueberry Pie Eating contest, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. and games from 10:45-11 a.m., 2:45-3 p.m. and 3:45-4:15 p.m. Maine marching bands and contingents will march in The Big E Daily Parade at 5 p.m.
    Representatives from the Maine Aquaculture Association will exhibit in the Maine Building throughout the Fair. Maine is the leading aquaculture state in the nation and is heading the domestic effort to reduce the dependency on other countries for seafood.
    Fairtime building exhibitors include Bob’s Sugarhouse of Dover-Foxcroft, Izzy’s Cheesecake of Auburn, Designs By Dannie, Hancock’s Gourmet Lobster of Topsham, Maine Highlands Area of Bangor, Maine Potato Board of Presque Isle, Maine Wood Products of Belfast, University of Maine at Machias, and Wild Blueberry Commission of Orono, Eugenia’s Country Flags of Scarborough, Maine-Le-Flowers of Sanford, Maine Cheese Guild of New Gloucester, Minikins of Farmington, Snow Prints, Ltd. of South Thomaston, Nickerson’s of Newburgh, Maine Aquaculture Association, and the Maine Tourism Association.
