McAtee aces par-4 first hole at PICC
    Ron McAtee of Presque Isle netted his first career hole-in-one with a driver on the 322-yard par-four opening hole at Presque Isle Country Club Friday.
    McAtee’s ace was witnessed by Monica Bearden and George Watson. Meeting slated tonight on women’s fitness club
    An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at MOJO at 719 Main Street in Presque Isle for women interested in being part of the new Women’s Fitness Club.
    The club will provide an opportunity for women of all fitness levels to meet weekly, to participate in physical activities and enjoy a time of discussion on various topics of interest regarding women’s health an  fitness.
    Some of the proposed activities include nordic walking, yoga, indoor cycling, pilates, snowshoeing, skiing, kickboxing, core work, belly dancing and more. Proposed topics of discussion are nutrition, outdoor recreation, heart rate and workouts, weightlifting myths, weight loss, preventing sports injuries, goals and schedules and the benefits of massage.

Athletes of the week
    The Presque Isle High School Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate Nathaniel Postell and Jaylee Fox for being selected as athletes of the week for the week of Sept. 8-13.
    Postell scored a goal and assisted on another to help the boys varsity soccer team to important wins over Fort Kent and Central. Fox’s efforts to assist a fellow competitor during Saturday’s cross country meet at Mount Desert Island exemplified sportsmanship and Wildcat pride.
    Student athletes selected as athletes of the week receive a one-item large pizza, courtesy of Big Cheese Pizza.
Fat Tire Festival set for this weekend
    The TAMC/NHSC Fat Tire Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle. Events will include an adventure relay, bike rodeo, downhill race and MMBA Point Series cross country mountain bike finale. For more information, visit www.nordicheritagecenter.org.
Ski clinic planned at UM-Presque Isle
    The University of Maine at Presque Isle ski team will offer a dry-land ski clinic for master skiers Oct. 3-5 in Presque Isle. The clinics will be held at both the Nordic Heritage Ski Center and the university’s Gentile Hall facility. All proceeds from the $40 fee go to support the UMPI ski team.
    The three-day clinic of workshops and presentations is designed to introduce and develop dry-land training techniques as essential preparation for a successful competition ski season. Activities include running, roller skiing, strength, plyometrics, dry-land drills with running poles, and stretching. This clinic is recommended for cross-country skiers with basic experience on roller skis and the capability to do a 30-minute run.

Basketball officiating school begins Monday
    IAABO Board 150 will offer an officiating school for new officials beginning Sept. 29 at Presque Isle High School room 411.
    The class will be held Mondays from 7-9 p.m. and the cost is $40. For more information, contact Harry Orser at 425-4451.
