Cleanup of Goddard Farm completed by rec department
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to have participated in the annual clean-up of the Goddard Farm in Blackstone Siding.
For those not aware, spring run-off has left many of the North Maine Woods in rough shape. Thanks to Irving Woodlands, the road access into Goddard Farm has been restored.
Goddard Farms was once a bustling community employed by in excess of 100 lumbermen and farm hands. Through the diligence of some local historians and conservationists, in cooperation with Irving Woodlands, this area has been reserved from harvesting.
The trail offers excellent opportunities for hikers to win through some virgin pines, and to see some of the artifacts remaining from this fascinating era.

Take it Outside Senior Series
The recreation department will offer a Take It Outside Senior Series for adults ages 55 and older.
The third trip is Oct. 7 and will head north with a guided tour by long-time local historian Gary Pelletier, beginning with a visit to the turnstile in St. Francis that marked the end of the Bangor and Aroostook railroad connection to the north country. After that, a viewing of an early woods camp built in 1906 will take place, followed by a visit to the Debouille area, Red River Falls and a beautiful foliage ride out to Portage before returning to Caribou.
Lunch will feature an old-fashioned hot dog on a stick roast in the great outdoors. The fee for the trip is $12. Pre-registration is required and is limited to the first 14 signing up.
The van departs from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and returns by 3 p.m.
