HOULTON, Maine – Absentee ballots are now available at the Houlton Town Office, 21 Water Street, for registered voters of Houlton.
Absentee ballots can be mailed by request or taken out of the office through Election Day. Ballots must be returned to the polls by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008. Absentee ballots can be sent through the mail but voter needs to call the office (532-7111) to request this option; voter can come to the Town Office and take the ballot out for themselves or an immediate family member by filing a written request; or voter can come to the Town Office and vote in-person. In-person absentee voting can be done in the Town Office through Oct. 31, 2008.

Write-in candidate

Registered voters of Houlton can be considered as a valid write-in candidate for any position on the municipal ballot by declaring their candidacy by Oct. 30, 2008. The required forms are available at the Town Office, 21 Water Street.
A write-in candidate is a person whose name is not printed on the ballot but otherwise fulfills the qualifications for the office they designate. Anyone wanting to declare their candidacy for a state of Maine position needs to file the required form with the Department of Secretary of State. These forms are also available at the Town Office.
