Committee awards grant to Aroostook Area Agency on Aging

ELLSWORTH, Maine – In honor of the Maine Community Foundation’s 25th anniversary, the Aroostook County Committee has made a special $2,500 grant to the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging in recognition of its work to strengthen the community.  The grant will be presented at the agency’s annual meeting Oct. 27.
Members of the Aroostook County Committee recommended the grant based on the AAAA’s commitment to helping to make life better for the elderly across the county. The committee also recognized five other non-profits in the county: Association culturelle et historique du Mont-Carmel, GIFT (Grace Interfaith Food Table), Nordic Heritage Sport Club, Presque Isle Historical Society and Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum.
A non-profit in each of Maine’s 16 counties has received a 25th Anniversary Community Building Award, thanks to a grant from the Sandy River Charitable Foundation, which has supported MaineCF’s county and regional program for the past 10 years. All 16 non-profits will be considered for this year’s Noyce Award for Non-profit Excellence, which will be presented at MaineCF’s “Inspiring Philanthropy” evening in Portland Nov. 10.
“These awards honor the many contributions the county and regional program has made to MaineCF’s success in supporting non-profits across Maine through its community-building grants,” said Henry Schmelzer, the foundation’s president.
A statewide organization with offices in Augusta, Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation has been partnering with donors and non-profits to strengthen Maine communities for 25 years. FMI: www.mainecf.org or call 1-877-700-6800.
