Artist on exhibit
Manhattan artist Risa Hirsch Ehrlich comes to the campus of the University of Maine at Presque Isle for the opening reception of her solo ceramic art exhibition, “Consider a Moment of Stillness,” on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. in the Reed Fine Art Gallery. During the reception, she will give a brief talk and answer questions about her work with clay as a form of self-expression. Ehrlich’s exhibition will be on display through Wednesday, Nov. 26, in the gallery. The public is invited to attend. For information, call 768-9611.
UMPI celebrates Science Day
The University of Maine at Presque Isle celebrates the 13th annual Science Day on Wednesday, Oct. 22 with a 7 p.m. guest lecture in the Campus Center by Dr. Orrin Pilkey, a coastal erosion expert and Professor Geology Emeritus at Duke University. He will discuss coastal erosion and sea level change in his talk “The Rising Seas: The Future of Miami and Eskimo Villages.” The public is encouraged to attend this free event. UMPI groups host blood drive
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host its annual Fall Semester Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. in the Campus Center. The blood drive is sponsored by the University’s Residence Life Office, the Brothers of Kappa Delta Phi and the Sisters of Kappa Delta Phi NAS. Walk-ins are welcome and door prizes will be given away during the drive. If donors wish to reserve a time in advance, they should call 768-9585 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Club to host Haunted House
The Physical Education Majors Club of the University of Maine at Presque Isle will host a Haunted House at the Aroostook Centre Mall for two nights just before Halloween. It will be held from 1 – 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 and from 4 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25. The cost is $4 per person with proceeds to benefit the club. For information call 768-9457.
TAMC hosts Health Fair
On Saturday, Oct. 25, from 8 a.m.-noon, The Aroostook Medical Center will host its annual health fair, offering flu shots, screenings and fun for the whole family. The event will be held in Gentile Hall. FMI, call 768-4008.
Blue Jupiter to perform “Hailed as the next shining star of a cappella vocal music,” Blue Jupiter will be performing a one-night, energy-packed, inspirational show at Wieden Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Blue Jupiter has won numerous awards and most recently performed in “VH1’s Save the Music Event.” The show is free for students (with proper ID), $5 for non-students and adults.
