Ricker Rumblings
By Lois Downing
Hello everyone. Once again, how about this weather. Nice day today. We’ve had rain, fog, snow and frost. We are grateful for today.
Florence Hanson is our newest tenant here. Florence was a daily visitor at the plaza when her mother, Gladys Boulier, lived here many years ago. May you have a long and happy stay here, Florence.
Dianne Faulkner has moved or will move shortly. She is going back to Oakfield. Sorry about that. We will miss Dianne and wish her well.
Are you ready for Halloween and all that it brings? May the day be agreeable and the young folks have a great time, as well as the seniors and all looking after them.
Do you know that you can buy frozen dinners at the hospital cafeteria for a buck. They are very tasty and worth the money.
Dorothy Weston had a recent birthday. Dot turned 96! May she have many more years of wonderful living. Congratulations Dot.
See you next week and have a good one.
My thought for the day is from Psalm 111:4-5: …”The Lord is gracious and compassionate. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.”
Happy Losers
By Shirley Sides
The Happy Losers meeting was held at the Congregational Church vestry on Oct. 22. We had our usual pledge and roll call. There were eight ladies in attendance. Our secretary and treasurer gave reports for the week.
Shirley Sides lost the most weight and runners-up were, Dotty Rand and Jackie Pratt.
Jackie Pratt, our leader, led the program for the week. Members were asked what their goals were. Many just wanted to be healthy and some wanted to lose more pounds.
Meetings are always interesting and informative. Please feel welcome to come to our meetings every Wednesday. Weigh-ins are at 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and the meeting starts at 9 a.m. Call 365-4884 for more information.
Red Hat Border Belles staying busy
The Red Hat Border Belles have been busy this month. The group started out the month with a delicious lunch at Brookside on October 9 with approximately 22 in attendance.
Border Belles Linda Russell, Marilyn Tidd, Joan Logan, QM Barbara Grant, Elva Coburn, Pricilla Monroe, Leola Bishop, Julia Craigs and Marge Pannell accepted an invitation to socialize with the Madigan Estate residents on October 15. The red hatters entertained with a medley of songs and brought back memories from “the good old days” with – readings about “Hankies” that did more than wipe runny noses; the “Grand Old Rocking Chair” which was deemed the best seat in the house; the family tradition of sitting around “The Radio” to listen to our favorite program; and then, of course, being October, a tale about the greatest Halloween prank ever – the famous radio broadcast by Orson Welles in 1939 – “War of the Worlds”. This prompted many personal responses as the memories came flooding back.
Several members of the group appeared in full regalia at the Southern Aroostook Agriculture Museum in Littleton on October 25 to enjoy the harvest supper to support the Houlton Human Society.
