TOPS #ME 233, HOULTON
by Lois Downing
Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Chapter 233 of Houlton, met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Friday, October 24 meeting.
Eighteen ladies were present including 5 KOPS. Barbara Troy was the official greeter and leader Joyce Estey conducted the meeting.
Joanne Scott, weight recorder, and Brenda Lacostic gave reports. Denise Kinney gave a report on the new contest. Denise told us this would be the final week for the contest.
Charlotte Marley volunteered to be greeter for November.
Loser of the week was Joanne Scott with runner-up Joyce Estey.
Barbara Troy led us in 10 minutes of exercise. The exercises are always a highlight of the meeting.
The mystery gift was won by Joanne Scott; the 50/50 drawing by Joyce Estey and the skinny dish by Barbara Troy.
Joyce read letters to the chapter from our representatives, Janice Cote and Paulette Soliere. A new honor society for KOPS will be formed in 2009. Fourteen new chapters were formed in Maine in 2008.
The next workshop will be November 1 in Presque Isle.
A new prize was started by Vicki Little and won by Kathy Hutchinson.
Joyce explained a walking program. We will walk from Houlton to Hathorne, Florida where we will meet Joanne Scott.
Vicki Little had charge of the program. She chose “healthy eating”, and asked how many had eaten breakfast that morning and what was on the menu. She explained that we lose weight to feel and look better. We should eat a wide variety of veggies and whole grains and portion our servings small; limit salt and pepper and chew our food well. It takes 20 minutes between the time your food digests and your brain says it is enough.
Vicki will continue her program at the next meeting, October 31. Weigh-in time is 8-8:45 a.m. and the program usually ends at 10 o’clock after starting at 9 a.m.
If you need more information on the chapter, please call Charlotte Marley at 757-8483 or Betty Ivey at 532-9653. Everyone is welcome.
