Hello again on this day before the historic election day. Did you get out to vote? Hope so. I sent mine in by absentee ballot to avoid the long lines and parking spaces. Many here at Ricker did the same thing. Isn’t the weather great! We are blessed by this as it could be the other way.
Congratulations to my nieces in New Hampshire who both gave birth to daughters, within two weeks of each other, namely Elise Jean and Lillian Charlotte. I can’t wait to see them.
Irene, manager of Meals on Wheels, is on vacation with her family. Have a good time, Irene, you deserve it.
Marcia Thomas, a lovely lady who lives in the area and one who was struck by cancer, is in Warren, Ohio for treatment. Good luck, my friend.
Florence Hanson is still moving in. It takes a lot of time and energy. Glad you are here, Florence.
Our Halloween objects have been put away for another season and Thanksgiving ones will be placed up soon.
We had a nice Halloween luncheon, thanks to Charlene, our liasion. We had ham and chicken sandwiches, punch, egg salad, chips, cookies and cup cakes. It was a nice gathering of friends and tenants.
RSVP volunteers are still needed. If you can spare only an hour, you will have done a great service.
Orange and black are Halloween colors because orange is associated with the fall harvest and black because of darkness.
Are you getting used to the new time? We also have a new time for Sunday Mass at 11 a.m. instead of 10:30 at St. Mary of the Visitation Church.
Kathryn Hall was a visitor of her mother, Lois Downing, for several days last week.
Thought for the day: “He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.” (Proverbs 21:21)
Have a good week.
The meeting of the Happy Losers was held Oct. 29 at the Congregational Church vestry. We opened with our pledge and roll call. We also had our ups and downs exercise, which everyone enjoys.
We had 10 ladies attend our meeting.
Our person who lost the most weight for the week was Joanie Sides and runner-up was Dotty Rand. Great job ladies!
The secretary and treasurer report was given for the week.
Riva Hawkes led the program for the week. Her topic was an article from the AARP magazine concerning the foods that you should eat to help your heart, minimize red meat and eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
Meeting was interesting. Please feel welcome to our meeting every Wednesday from 7:30-8:45 a.m. weigh-ins and meeting begins at 9 a.m. Call 365-4884 for more information.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly Chapter 233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its last meeting of October.
Barbara Troy was the official greeter. Joyce Estey was present as the chapter leader.
Charlotte Marley will be the official greeter for November.
Fourteen TOPS were present and six were KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly). We all said the TOPS and then the KOPS pledge.
Roll call was given. Reports were submitted by Janette Nelson, treasurer, Joanne Scott, weight recorder, and Lois Downing gave the minutes of the last meeting in place of absent Vicki Little.
The loser of the week was Barbara Grant; runner-up was Aileen Smith.
The mystery gift winner was Joanne Scott who also was the 50/50 winner; Juanita Warman was the skinny dish winner.
Discussion was on the workshop in Presque Isle November 1. We talked about how long it would take us to walk to Hathorne, Florida from Houlton.
Denise Kinney, in charge of programs, will collect our contest papers next week.
Anita Nason had charge of the program in place of absent Vicki. Her subject was carbohydrates. Carbs help fuel the body. She told us the difference in whole wheat bread and white. We should also savor our food as do the French people. She also gave us many other tips.
Weigh-in time is 8-8:45 every Friday morning. The meeting starts at 9 and usually ends at 10 o’clock.
For information about the chapter, please call Charlotte Marley at 757-8483 or Betty Ivey.
Aroostook RSVP is in need of yarn for their Warm Hands and Feet Program. RSVP volunteers knit mittens and socks, which are given to various agencies and organizations in the County.
If you have yarn stashed away and would like to donate it to a worthy cause, please bring it by SCRAPS, 23 Market Square in Houlton.
