The Presque Isle Middle School girls and boys cross country teams recently completed their seasons.
The girls and boys both placed third in the Aroostook League championship meet held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle earlier this month.
Two of the Wildcat girls finished among the top-10, with seventh-grader Shelby Condon seventh in 14:56 on the two-mile course and sixth-grader Madison Shaw taking 10th place in 15:06.
The young PI squad also included sixth-graders Brooke Dinatale, Samantha Plummer, Lazareth Porquin, Mary Mitchell, Rachel Hobbs, Erin Ackerson and Shaw all showing steady improvement throughout the season, according to coach Kim Wright. Condon was the sole seventh-grader and Samantha Simonds and Amelia Sharp made up the eighth-grade contingent.
The PIMS boys also had two runners in the top-10 at the County Meet, as seventh-grader Saul Nunez was sixth in 13:50 and sixth-grader Cristian Nunez eighth in 13:57.
Also a youthful team, seventh-graders William Popov, Mike Donovan, Matt Tilley, Frank Nunez, Josh Jones and Saul Nunez will lead the way next year. Sixth-graders Joseph Patenaude, James Churchill, John Freeman, Cristian Nunez, Logan Banks and Trenten Johnson have the potential to make significant contributions, according to coach Barry Wright.
