It looks as if Thanksgiving weather will be fair with a high of about 35 degrees. Aroostook residents can expect it to be partly cloudy and little to no precipitation. Today, however, doesn’t look as if it is going to be as mild; a northward band of snow was expected to reach the area last night, and mix with today’s estimated 30 – 35 degree temperatures. This will most likely mean snow, sleet and rain for what has been called the busiest traveling day of the year.
One to three inches of snow can be expected in the area today, with the amount of snow increasing with elevation and towards the St. John Valley, where there could be three or four inches.
“The area is going to be impacted by a storm system moving slowly across Western New England,” said Tony Sturey, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Caribou, “it will primarily effect the Western and Southern parts of the state.”
Some Aroostook residents experienced icy roads and chilly winds last Saturday from a storm that impacted primarily New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
“It got a little icy on Saturday morning,” said Sturey, “temperatures were in the low to mid 20s and the wind were gusting in the 20 – 35 mph range, and the wind child values were in the single digits and getting down to about zero.”
