UMPI hosts Holiday Light Parade events
    PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce are inviting members of the community to two holiday campus activities on Saturday, Dec. 6, the evening of the Presque Isle Holiday Light Parade. Just prior to the parade, all are invited to gather at 6:30 p.m. at the President’s House for a bowl of chili and hot beverages. At this time, the 60-foot evergreen tree on the President’s lawn will be lit to formally mark the start of the holiday season.Parking is available at the Gentile Hall and library campus parking lots.
    As the Holiday Light Parade winds its way down Main Street and parade floats arrive on campus, all are invited to warm up after the parade in the lobby of Gentile Hall. Hot cocoa, coffee and cookies will be served to welcome parade participants and others to this post-parade holiday gathering.

Fort Fairfield is feature of art exhibition

    PRESQUE ISLE – An exhibit featuring the talents of Fort Fairfield artists and connections to Fort Fairfield’s past will be on display from Dec. 6 through Jan. 17 in the Reed Fine Art Gallery at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The exhibition titled, “It’s Time: To Feature Fort Fairfield Artists” offers a diverse collection of work in recognition of Fort Fairfield’s recent Sesquicentennial celebration. It was compiled by Sesquicentennial Chairs Sarah Ullman and Rayle Ainsworth as the closing event in the year-long celebration. Gallery hours for the exhibition are Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  For information, call 768-9611.
Student Education Association offers workshop
    PRESQUE ISLE – The Student Education Association of Maine (SEAM) will host a workshop titled “How Do You Know What Your Students Know?” on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The workshop will be conducted by Ellen Holmes, NEA/Maine Department of Education distinguished educator.
    Participants receive an introduction to the idea of “Response to Intervention” in the general education classroom. Activities are designed to help educators and education students understand how to articulate essential learning targets, universal screening, progress monitoring, and tools and resources for collecting and analyzing student data. 
    The workshop is free to NEA/MEA/SEAM members, $75 for non-members; lunch and snacks will be provided. To register, contact wendy.ross@umpi.edu.
Club hosts Dec. 6 workshop
    PRESQUE ISLE – A student club of the University of Maine at Presque Isle is hosting a Santa’s Workshop for area children on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. –  6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Campus Center. Sponsored by Klub Kampus, the commuter and non-traditional student’s club, the day’s events are free and will include games, movies, face painting, prizes and photos with Santa. UMPI Senior Class holds gift wrapping fund-raiser
    PRESQUE ISLE – University of Maine at Presque Isle is hosting a holiday gift-wrapping fund-raiser for their Senior Class of 2009 on Dec. 9 –11 in Preble Hall on the UMPI campus. Those wishing to have their gifts wrapped, should drop them off on the first floor of Preble between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. each of the three days. Wrapped and decorated packages will be available for pickup the next day. All donations made for wrapping will be used to support activities of UMPI’s Senior Class, 2009. For information, please call Keith Madore at 768-9568 or Laurie Boucher at 768-9512.
