With an overwhelming defeat of his opponent at the polls in November, Rep. Henry Joy of Crystal, must be doing something right. That’s what the Maine Economic Research Institute (MERI) thought too, when they presented him with a Certificate of Economic Excellence for outstanding performance and lasting contribution to Maine’s Economic Future.
The MERI is a non-partisan group that rates legislators on the bills that come through and how they vote on the economy. In a two-year period, working for the 123rd Legislature, Joy received a 93 percent voting record. He has worked hard the last 14 years for District #9, which encompasses northern Penobscot (down to Millinocket Lake), and southern Aroostook (Ludlow-Weston). It’s always nice to know a legislator is looking out for voters’ best interests, and Henry Joy is certainly doing his job.
Glenn Cummings, Speaker of the House, wrote Joy a letter, thanking him for his service to the people of Maine. He said that through Joy’s service, the legislature leaves behind an impressive legacy of dedication, commitment and most importantly, vital progress. He also wrote that the people of Maine are most fortunate to have Joy as an outstanding public servant. Cummings wrote a personal note across the top of the letter stating, “Thank you for being the first ‘gentleman’ of the House.”
