Annual UMFK Fiddlers’ Jamboree

FORT KENT – Organizers of the 2009 Mardi Gras Fiddlers’ Jamboree have put out a call to area musicians and entertainers to participate in the largest jam session and house party, which has been held annually on the University of Maine at Fort Kent campus for more then a decade.     The jamboree, which has become a St. John Valley tradition, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. in UMFK’s Fox Auditorium. The event is open to the public.
The event brings together talented musicians for an afternoon of impromptu performances. In the past, the jamboree has drawn both its performers and its audience from throughout Aroostook County and western New Brunswick.
The jamboree has become very successful and since the attendance has grown over the years, the event will now be held in Fox Auditorium, which has a greater seating capacity.
In addition to being an event that audience members look forward to each year, the jamboree also is a favorite of the musicians who perform.  Fiddlers, guitarists, other acoustic musicians and singers are invited and encouraged to take part in the Sunday afternoon concert.
Interested participants are encouraged to contact, in advance of the jamboree, Susan Tardie at (207) 834-7557 or 1-888-879-8635 or Warren Harvey, at (207) 834-3939 before Feb.15.
