Keep your snow out of roadways

Houlton Police Chief, Butch Asselin wants to remind everyone about the potential results of improper snow removal.
The improper placement of snow and slush into a public way potentially creates a safety hazard for motorists, pedestrians and pets. Debris such as, cans, glass, wire and shards of metal mixed in with the snow, may damage vehicles or even cause injury.
The illegal placement of snow in a public way increases a driver’s chance of losing control of their vehicle, may reduce the width of the roadway, limits sight distance, creates drainage problems, causes difficulty and increases costs for snow removal operations.
If you are a contractor or a homeowner, please remember to: never pile, push or blow snow into a street or on sidewalks; never pile snow by mailboxes, dumpsters, water drains, catch basins, electrical boxes or fire hydrants and never pile snow on top of any structure.
Failing to abide by the law could result in a fine of $165.
