Men’s 30 and over basketball meets Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m.-12 noon at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. There is a $3 per player fee on Sundays.
Family night
Through the course of the long winter the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will offer our Family Nights at the Recreation Center. The activities will include organized games, use of the gym, walking track and game room as well as some special surprises. Please note that this is a family night and is being offered to give families a chance to reconnect and have some fun and therefore all youngsters must be accompanied by a parent. Family nights are as follows: Jan. 17, 31, March 7, 21 from 6-8:30 p.m.
Big Rock lift tickets
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department is offering Big Rock lift tickets at a reduced price to area residents. Junior tickets for youths ages 6-17 are $19 each and Adult life tickets are $24 each. The tickets are available at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center Office.
XC ski trails
The Caribou ski trails are located at the Caribou Country Club off Rt. 161, approximately 3 miles north of Caribou. There are 10 km of trails all groomed with hard packed conditions. Set track on all interior trails. Snowshoe enthusiasts are welcome.
Local hotshots
The local MRPA Hotshots competition will be held on Friday, Jan. 30 for youth’s ages 9-18 at the Caribou Wellness & Recreation Center. Pre-registration is required.
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with Maine Winter Sports is again conducting a youth cross-country ski program for boys and girls in grades 2-8. The program will be held from 3-4:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons beside the F.F. Elementary School (meet in the cafeteria after school) starting on Wednesday, Jan. 21 and will continue through April 1. Skiers will be taught the basics of Cross-Country skiing (both classical and Skating), along with proper ski care, how to wax skis, and all sorts of fun ski games and activities. The ski instructors for the program will be Tom Towle and others. The after school ski program is free for all participants. Contact the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department to register.
Saturday Morning Kids Ski Club
The Saturday Morning Kids Ski Club being held at the Nordic Heritage Center starts Saturday, Jan. 17 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and continues each Saturday through March 28. This program is for boys and girls in grades 2-8 from throughout Aroostook County and is designed to teach kids and parents the fun of cross-country skiing through games, play, and the use of a terrain Park There is a $10 fee payable to the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department to participate. Cross-Country ski rentals
A reminder to everyone that if you do not have your own cross-country ski equipment, the Parks and Recreation Department has a ski rental program whereby students in grades 2-8 can rent a complete cross-country ski package for the entire ski season for only $25 ($20 for each additional child). Contact the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department at 472-3882 to make an appointment to pick up your ski equipment for the winter (equipment is limited so don’t hesitate). Introduction to basketball
Introduction to basketball for boys and girls in grades K & 1 will be held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center each Saturday from 11:00am-12:00noon starting Feb. 7 and will continue through April 11. There is no cost to participate in this program. Children will be taught the basic skills and fundamentals of basketball with the emphasis on ball handling and shooting. A variety of fun games and activities will be used to help keep things exciting and interesting for the youngsters. Registration forms will be available at school or at the Community Center. Co-ed volleyball
Co-ed volleyball for high school age and over is held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium every Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. Play is informal with teams being selected each night from all those in Open gymnasium
The Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium is open for all ages for free basketball play on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m., Saturday afternoon from 1-4 p.m., and Sunday afternoon from 12-4 p.m..
Adult basketball
The Community Center Gymnasium is open for adult basketball on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Play is informal with teams being selected each night from all those in attendance. The cost is $2 per night.
Friday Night Flick
Bring your blanket, pillow, or bean bag chair and enjoy an evening of entertainment for the whole family at the Fort Fairfield Community Center on Jan. 23 as Cary Medical Center of Caribou will be showing the new Disney/Pixar blockbuster “Wall E” on the big screen. Admission to the movie is free and includes snacks. This event is for all ages and children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible chaperone.
Ice Skating Rink
The Fort Fairfield Outdoor Skating Rink located beside the swimming pool is open for the season. The warming hut is open Monday-Friday from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 12-4 p.m. The public is welcome to skate at other times as well even though the warming hut is not open.
G-Force Laser Tag
The Community Center gymnasium is the site for G-Force Laser Tag on the following Saturdays: Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 21, and April 18. Ages 8-12 will play from 4:30-5:30 p.m. while ages 13 and over will play from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $5 for ages 8-12 and $10 for ages 13 and over.
Reduced Rate Big Rock Tickets
The Fort Fairfield Recreation Department is selling ski tickets to Big Rock Mountain in Mars Hill at a reduced rate this winter in conjunction with the NMCRA ticket program. The cost is $24 for adult tickets and $19 for student tickets. Call the community center office at 472-3882 to make arrangements to purchase your Big Rock tickets and save.
Indoor Walking and Exercise
The Community Center Gymnasium is open free of charge for walking, jogging, and exercise Monday-Friday from 6 a.m.-12 p.m. (except holidays).
