CARIBOU — On the morning of Jan. 19 at approximately 4:30 a.m., fire tore through a Caribou home on Limestone Road causing complete destruction, accord to Chief Roy Woods of the Caribou Fire Department.     Though no official cause of the fire has been found, Chief Woods suspects that a wood stove in the kitchen may have been the source of the extensive damage.
“It was fully involved when we arrived,” he said, “Flames were coming out of the roof.”
Though the Caribou Fire Department had 25 firefighters performing an exterior attack on the flames for about two hours, the home of Roland Thompson was a complete loss.
“We are disappointed that the fire was so involved before we arrived, but we’re glad that no one was hurt,” Chief Woods said.
Thompson, fortunately, was not home at the time of the fire.
According to a family member, Thompson is thankful for the contributions from the American Red Cross and the Caribou VFW Post 9389, (of which he is a member).
Though the home was insured, the cost of rebuilding a lifetime’s worth of possessions is staggering.
Those interested in helping can send donations, addressed to Roland Thompson, at the Caribou VFW Post 9389 at 253 Van Buren Rd., Caribou.
