PRESQUE ISLE – The weekend fire that destroyed the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club building on State Park Rd. could have created problems for two upcoming fund-raisers, but thanks to the generosity of the local Shriners, the events will go on as scheduled. “We’re very fortunate to have many members of the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club who are also members of the Shriners,” said Ted Roberts, second vice president of PISC, who is also Shriner.
The first fund-raiser will take place this weekend.
“The benefit supper and auction being held for Norm and Connie Driscoll will be held this Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Shriners’ Club building on the Houlton Rd. Supper will begin at 6 p.m. and the auction will follow at 7 p.m.,” said Roberts.
Cost is $20 per dinner and all proceeds will go to the Driscolls.
“Norm is the president of the PISC. He broke his upper leg just below a hip replacement he had done a couple of years ago and has been out of work 16 to 18 weeks without any income,” said Roberts.
Driscoll was injured last fall while working on a snowmobile trail project.
“Since this was a volunteer-type accident that happened while he and others were reconstructing the bridge, workmen’s comp wouldn’t apply. We had some volunteer insurance coverage but not enough to cover all of Norm’s and Connie’s expenses and lost income,” said Roberts.
The second event is part of AMHC’s annual Andy Santerre Sno-Run, which raises funds for sexual assault awareness programs through AMHC.
“The Andy Santerre Ride Luncheon was scheduled to take place at noontime at the clubhouse on Feb. 7. The location for the meal has been changed from the clubhouse to the Shriners’ building,” said Roberts.
Roberts expressed gratitude to the Shrine Club, on behalf of the PISC, for providing the use of their facility for the upcoming events on such short notice.
“We thank the Aroostook Shrine Club for their generosity,” said Roberts.
