Pageant season nears
The Mapleton Ladies Extension is in search of a new pageant director for this year’s Junior Miss and Miss Mapleton Pageant. We are a non-profit community organization that sponsors both the Little Miss and the Junior Miss/Miss Pageants. The last few years, because of a smaller number of participants, we have had only one pageant crowning both a Junior Miss Mapleton queen and a Miss Mapleton queen. As a director, you would be responsible for organizing all aspects of the pageant, following the current guidelines already in place and making sure that the guidelines are also current with the Potato Blossom Festival Pageants. We are looking for someone willing to donate their time, skills and love of working with the young ladies involved. The Extension will be there for guidance and support throughout the preparation of the pageant, along with helping the day of the pageant. If you would be interested in directing this year’s 2009 Junior Miss and Miss Mapleton Pageant, please send a Letter of Interest to: Liz Brewer, President, Mapleton Ladies Extension, P.O. Box 94, Mapleton, Maine 04757. If you have any questions, contact Brewer at 764-3427.
Mapleton Ladies Extension
The Mapleton Ladies Extension would like to thank everyone who came out in the cold for the lighting of the community Christmas tree Dec. 5. The ladies met for their Christmas party at the home of Regina Craig. They made a wreath or a kissing ball before they enjoyed a potluck supper and a fun Yankee swap. The January meeting was held at Valerie DeLong’s were they had a short business meeting, then a program on going green was given by Liz Brewer and Sylvia McHatten. The next meeting is Feb. 9. Anyone interested in joining the Mapleton Extension can contact Valerie DeLong or Liz Brewer.

Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society will be selling candy bars again this winter. It has always been a great fund-raiser thanks to everyone’s sweet tooth out there.
The society is looking for volunteers to please give them an hour of your time once a month to help keep the building operating. The fund-raisers they have are just paying their expenses and leave them with little else to do their projects. If you have enjoyed voting, going to town meetings, their suppers, having a reasonable hall to rent right in your own town, and other events, please consider helping to keep their organization going for future years. Dues for a working member are $10 per year, or $15 for non-working member, or $100 for a lifetime membership. Their meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month from February through November.
They are requesting that anyone who has knowledge of a veteran who served in the military between 1903 to the present to write or call Natalie Maynard, 2877 State Road, Castle Hill, Maine 04757 or 764-4878. They need names, dates, and any information you can give them so they can place the names on a sign or in a book in the future. The person must have been a resident of Castle Hill at the time of service.
Their next meeting will be Feb. 24, 2009.
