Winter’s grip is continuing, with the week starting off with sub-zero temperatures, giving way beginning Wednesday for the next bout of snow.
Temperatures dipped early Monday morning to nearly 39 below in Washburn, with surrounding communities reporting similar readings, with some even reported to be lower than that.

The cold spell was expected to let up on Wednesday, just in time for the winter storm warning issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
According to the NOAA Web site, www.noaa.gov, lows for the remainder of the work week were expected to stay in the single digits, with highs in the teens to low 20s. A winter storm warning has been issued for Presque Isle and surrounding communities, with an inch of new snow expected Wednesday, with nine to 13 inches predicted for Wednesday evening.
The storm is expected to continue into Thursday. At presstime, the winter storm warning remained in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday through 1 p.m. Thursday.
According to the Web site, total snow accumulations from the storm are expected to range from nine to 14 inches across the area by Thursday morning, with localized amounts of 12 to 16 inches possible.
