AUGUSTA – Rep. Patricia Sutherland (D-Chapman) has been appointed House Chair of the Committee on Education for the 124th Maine Legislature. Sutherland, a retired educator, served on the Education Committee during her first term.     “I’m thrilled Speaker Hannah Pingree has appointed me to this position,” said Sutherland. “It is critically important to maintain high quality education in the classroom and establish the most effective use of funding support for higher education.”
Sutherland cited limited funding as the major challenge for many of the issues that the Education Committee will take on this session.
“Our committee has many hours of work ahead to ensure limited dollars are used in the most accountable and efficient manner possible,” said Sutherland.     Sutherland is serving her second term in the House representing Castle Hill, Chapman, Hammond, Littleton, Mapleton, Masardis, Monticello, part of Presque Isle, Wade, Washburn, Oxbow Plantation and Central Aroostook.
